Event Report

During Friday's lunch break, Petronel and her team from Care for Wild visited us in Wageningen for a presentation about their work to safe rhinos and combat the horrific poaching of these magnificent animals.

Care for Wild is a South African organisation that take care about rhino orphans (often they loose their mothers after they got poached for their horns). They raise the calfs, play with them and teach them how to live like a rhino.

But to give them a place to life alone does not stop the poaching. Care for Wild works closely with the local communities by employing people, reaching out to schools through education programs. Even though the poachers are usually part of a large criminalised network (and not from the neighbouring communities), education is a keystone for successful conservation.

Petronel shared the emotional stories of some rhino individuals, calfs or injured adults that they had saved. Now these animals have a second chance in Care for Wilds protected wildlife reserve.

Thank you Care for Wild for visiting us sharing your story with us.

Thanks to all students that listened and discussed with us! 💚🦏

About The Event
