Event Report
On the Saturday evening of June 22nd, we went for a birding walk at Grebbeberg Rhenen. Our guide was Becky Desjardins, a senior taxidermist at Naturalis Biodiversity Center, who shared her extensive knowledge about the birds we encountered. She was assisted by Wisse Visser, an FFN Academy member, who provided additional insights on the birds and their sounds.
The evening started with sightings of common chaffinches right in the parking lot where we gathered. As we walked into the forest, we also observed chiffchaffs, blackcaps, robins, and many more. Some of us were even lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a buzzard flying by! At the viewing point, we had a fantastic view of the water birds in the Blauwe Kamer nature area, including spoonbills and white egrets.
Halfway through our walk, we enjoyed a great snack break with some food provided by Hazel, another FFN Academy member. She made lovely rice balls which made us energized to continue our journey. Even though we had a bit of rain, this made for great views of rainbows and in the end a beautiful sunset.

About Event
Becky Desjardins is a senior taxidermist for the scientific vertebrate collection of Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden. Birds have been one of Becky's inspirations and lucky for us: she is enthusiastic to lead us on a bird excursion, to tell us everything about the beautiful birds from a unique perspective!
The excursion will take place in Grebbeberg Rhenen which is quite closed by to Blauwe Kamer. Wisse Visser (a fellow FFN Academy member from Utrecht) will assist us during the excursion as well. Sign up now for we have limited spots (25ppl max). Invite your friends and join us on a mindful birding through nature on a Saturday evening.
